GENERAL

1. HOW TO USE MY WISHLIST?

A wishlist can be found on almost every decent webshop. In general people use it to store the products they would love to have...sometime! A great and smart thing to do with your wishlist is to send it to friends and family. Make it easy for them to find the perfect gift for you on your birthday, Christmas, Eastern or the birth of a baby..or just another way of simply asking for a gift.

2. WHERE DOES EKSTUR STAND FOR?

The idea came from the beautiful bird: the Magpie or Ekster in Dutch. We simply changed Ekster to Ekstur!
The myth tells us that the magpie is always on the lookout for shiny and exclusive objects to gather in its nest. With EKSTUR we do exactly that. We are constantly on the lookout for the right and "shiny" object which we than gather on our webshop for you to find and enjoy.

ART

1. I WOULD LOVE TO SELL MY WORK ON YOUR SITE, HOW DOES THAT WORK?

When you are an artist that is looking for an online shop to sell through, contact us. Your name and works will be highlighted in our on- and offline marketing and an Artist-Bio will be added on our site. Our Art-section promotes 4 main artforms: Originals, Prints, Sculptures and Objects. For Original works and Prints, EKSTUR takes a 25 % commission on the final sale price. On Sculptures and Objects terms will be negotiated separately.

2. HOW DO I PRICE MY WORKS?

First of all, depending on whether you have sold before, remember that it is much better to be selling your work at lower and more accessible prices, increasing your exposure as an artist so that more people begin to discover your work which may, in turn, lead to further purchases.

Your prices need to be fact-based. You also need to be consistent in your pricing: if you are selling works through other channels then make sure the works have the same price wherever you are selling them. Similarly, be consistent about pricing larger works for more than smaller works. You might also want to consider making available a range of works at different sizes and prices so that if someone likes your work but can't afford a € 1000 painting they will still be available to purchase a work at say € 250. Keep records of all your sales and the prices you have sold works for; you can then see what is working, decide when to increase your prices, and if you seem to have reached a block and nothing is selling you can lower your prices. Below you will find 4 methods of pricing your works.

  1. Price your art based on comparables. Compare your art to what sells, not to what does not sell. Set your price similar to other artists with similar experiences and work in similar mediums
  2. Price your art like a retailer, at two times the cost materials
  3. Price it at cost of materials plus your hourly rate x hours spent creating the art. For example, if the cost of materials is € 50, your hourly rate is $20, and you spent 20 hours creating your art, then your art would be priced at € 50 + (€ 20 x 20) = € 450, or narrow it down to a square cm price which can be used on all of your works
  4. Broaden your appeal and try to offer works at various price points.

The pricing of prints is really up to the artist. However the current marketprices need to be looked into. Prints are in general for reaching a broader audience, so prices need to be based on this purpose.

3. WHO DOES THE SHIPPING?

In order to be able to represent many international artists, they need to ship the works in accordance with the agreement between EKSTUR and the artist. So when a work has been ordered, the order then goes from EKSTUR to the artist, who will send it straight to the client. However when the artist wants his works to be stocked and send by EKSTUR, EKSTUR will take a 30 % commission on the final sale price added with a € 25 shipping charge for originals and a € 15 charge for prints. Shipping charges on sculptures and objects will be looked into separately.

4. WHEN DOES THE ARTIST GET PAID?

When an order has been placed and shipped, the client has 14 days to reconsider his purchase by law. After this period, the artist gets a notification from EKSTUR to send an invoice for the work. This invoice will be paid within 30 days from invoice.

5. CAN I SEE THE WORK BEFORE PURCHASING?

No, as we are on online platform for artists to show and sell their work, you can only see them via our high-resolution photographs online. In order to make a vast amount of artwork from around the world available for purchase, we require that artists package and ship art directly from their studio to the buyer. However, we educate artists on how to take the best possible photos of their artwork so that the images are faithful to the work's actual appearance in person.
